Access to Education Project: FLITE

As a college senior I founded a small access to education project at Preble High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The group named itself FLITE, which stood for Future Leaders Inspired Through Empowerment. FLITE served as a resource for high school students to gain information on post-secondary options, receive mentorship and guidance, and be introduced to various careers and disciplines. The group also focused efforts on assisting students to graduate high school, write college entrance essays, file the FAFSA, and apply for scholarships and jobs.

Through fundraising efforts and small grants, FLITE was able to provide modest scholarships to each of the graduating members. These funds helped students bridge the cost of attending a college of their choice, assisted with the purchase of books, etc.

This group ran from 2010-2015 and was later absorbed into the Phuture Phoenix organization at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. A version of the program has continued to be expanded into other area high schools.
